WHAT WE DO

MODA FOR FRONTLINERS - This fundraiser was initiated by the Malaysian Official Designers’ Association (MODA), in partnership with FashionValet and IMARET to help the fashion designing and the creative community to buy and sew PPE hospital gowns for our frontliners.

Hospitals are in urgent need of more PPE hospital gowns. PPE hospital gowns are very important to protect them when dealing with patients or screening patients, so that they don’t contract the virus themselves. Because it is disposable, our hospitals need many of them. Please help us protect our frontliners!

The Malaysian Official  Designers’ Association has initiated a project to supply PPEs for frontliners. Funds will be administered by MODA to buy the fabric to be distributed to  designers and volunteers involved to sew PPE hospital gowns as fast as possible.

Together with MODA, FashionValet will help with the fundraising and IMARET will assist the distribution to their network of hospitals.

FAQ

1. How are the funds disbursed?

The funds raised will be used to buy the hospital gown fabric and other protective

gear. Then MODA’s team of designers and volunteers will sew the gowns to be sent

to our KKM personnel who need these gowns.

2. How do I make a donation? (It’s repetitive but better than not ask the question)

You can donate directly to:

  • MODA’s Maybank A/C# 5-14084-33920-1, or

  • Any of MODA’s e-Wallet with GrabPay or Maybank QRPay QRCodes below.

            More FAQ below...

3. How are the PPE items distributed?

We are partnering with IMARET recommended by FashionValet through their

ongoing Covid19 fundraising campaign. IMARET will be assisting in the distribution

of the PPE items to the designated KKM facilities all over the country with priority to

the health clinics around Klang Valley.

Temptative Project Flow:

1. First batch of the fund raised thru KitaFund.my will be transferred to MODA to

commence operations week 6th April.

2. Materials will arrive also week 6th April and will be sent to the respective

workshops/designers.

3. The entire operations takes 1 - 2 weeks (sourcing, purchasing, logistics, cutting,

sewing, QC, packing and transporting.

4. Expect distribution of PPEs by IMARET to hospitals & clinics third week of April

earliest.

4. Where are the PPE items distributed to?

We are working with IMARET, who are a well experienced NGO which has been working with hospitals nationwide. IMARET will register and evaluate the requests and will then distribute them to the respective KKM along their request list. (We are starting with Klang Valley, and we are getting requests from other states, which we record down and try to address later, if possible.

6. How did this fundraising start and why?

It got first started by a group of fashion designing friends seeing how some of the

KKM frontliners postings on social media that they had to use garbage bags as an

alternative to cover their heads and shoes because the PPE items weren’t available.

So then Melinda Looi with friends like Datuk Radzuan Radziwill, Salikin Sidik, Khoon

Hooi, Alia Bastamam, Key Ng, Chelest Thou, Kit Woo and others started to post on social media urgring help from the public to help by donating funds to buy the fabric to sew hospital gowns and other items. So then Vivy Yusof of FashionValet decided to join us and make this fund raising effort more official by setting up an online fundraising page via KitaFund and invited IMARET to also be part of this nationwide campaign.

In Mel’s words: “We started very small.. it was only among MODA members who were contributing some donation to help to get PPE items to help the frontliners. Then someone tag me on social media .. who are some volunteers to help to make face shields.. Elvina who is the volunteer who hooks me up with Liyana Zainal who is also a volunteer.. We started getting more materials and friends helped with more money to buy the materials.. and designers and home sewists started calling in too.. It was a very humble beginning.. Now we have Fashion Valet and Imaret on board with us to raise more fund.. and so we can buy more materials and PPE items to help te frontliners. “

7. Are the sewers, designers and volunteers compensated for their efforts?

All involved are doing this as voluntary basis and no one is being compensated in

anyway but only through the simple gratitude received from the KKM frontliners.

8. Do I get a tax exemption receipt?

We unfortunately can not provide a tax receipt at this point.

9. How do I volunteer if I can sew?

Please contact modamalaysia2019@gmal.com or WhatsApp only your name, mobile

and email address to 012-8580899 or 010-2689220.
